Why Catalyst?

The word “Catalyst” is applicable across a spectrum of contexts, from chemical reactions to social movements, or in this case, medicine - all serving as a symbol for something (or someone) that sparks or accelerates significant change. In the context of a patient with an orthopedic problem, the term "catalyst" can be applied to a transformative treatment or intervention that leads to positive change in the patient's health and well-being. This catalyst could include a breakthrough surgical technique, cutting-edge orthopaedic implant, or even successful nonsurgical treatment that results in improved mobility, reduced pain, or enhanced quality of life. This reflects the pivotal role that providers or interventions can serve when initiating positive transformations for patients facing orthopedic challenges, catalyzing a path towards better health and restored function.

cat·a·lyst/ˈkadləst/

and positive change.

Dr. Lawyer and Dr. Neary aim to embody the essence of catalysts within the realm of Orthopaedic Surgery. Both surgeons are leaders in their field, driving innovation and positive change. Together, these surgeons exemplify the power of female leadership in catalyzing progress within orthopedic surgery, challenging norms and inspiring a new generation of medical professionals. Their dynamic contributions serve as a catalyst for elevating the standards of care and fostering a culture of excellence within the orthopedic community, and providing the highest quality of care for their patients.

Elizabeth Cablik, NP-C

Elizabeth “Liz” H. Cablik, NP-C specializes in foot and ankle orthopaedics, offering customized treatment plans to new patients, assisting surgeon Dr. Kaitlin Neary in the operating room, and providing ongoing post-operative patient care. She manages a variety of conditions including chronic and acute foot and ankle pain, ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, arthritis of the foot and ankle, bunions and bunionettes, neuromas and hammertoes.

Throughout evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, Liz focuses on developing rapport with her patients. She emphasizes education and the overall health and well-being of the whole person. Liz tailors each patient’s care plan to fit their unique needs and can quickly refer for surgery when appropriate. Whether a patient has incurred a sports injury with impaired performance or a congenital musculoskeletal deformity, her goal is to get her patients back to baseline activity level — happy, healthy, and enjoying their highest quality of life.

Liz earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Emory University and is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Pursuing both a master’s degree and nurse practitioner licensure provided an opportunity for her to blend the compassionate care of nursing with the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions.

Liz was inspired to work in healthcare by her parents: her mother is a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist and her father, Dr. Michael J. Coughlin, is a world-renowned foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon.

Prior to joining Dr. Neary at Catalyst Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Liz enjoyed working alongside her father until his retirement.

Originally from Boise, Liz loves the great outdoors. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, skiing and running, as well as spending time with her husband, son and daughter.
